When it is time to replace the washing machine, purchase a water saving model that can be adjusted to the load size
KITCHEN
Install an efficient dishwasher
Only wash full loads of dishes in the dishwasher
When washing dishes by hand, don’t leave the water running for rinsing
Avoid using running water to thaw frozen foods
When cooking, peeling and cleaning vegetables use a large bowl of water instead of under running water
FAUCETS
Find and fix any leaky faucets
Install low-flow faucets
Turn off the faucet when washing
Use your water meter to check for hidden water leaks
SHOWERS
Consider a high effciency shower head
Take shorter showers
TOILETS
Replace old toilets with new high-efficiency toilets
Install low or dual flush models
Check toilets to verify they are working properly
OUTDOOR
Use a broom, not a hose, to clean driveways and sidewalks
Cover swimming pools to reduce evaporation
Reuse wastewater where possible especially during gardening and carwash
Use efficient watering systems
If rainfall isn’t sufficient, water your lawn/garden only once a week
Water the lawn/garden in the morning or late in the evening to maximise the amount of water which reaches the plant roots (otherwise most of the water will evaporate especially on hot days)
